Folded Hills Ranch is located near many popular attractions. We would be happy to take you on one sightseeing trip per day when you sign up for this package. Cabin and meals are included. Some of the destinations are close to each other and can be included in one day's trip.

For those interested in our rich history, there are several famous historical sites such as Fort Phil Kearny, where several important Indian battles were fought. The Fort is located just a short drive from the ranch.

Wagon Box Fight - On August 2, 1876, Captain Powell and 31 other soldiers were able to withstand a large Indian attack led by Red Cloud and his nephew. The woodcutting detail had been recently supplied with the newly converted Springfield breech loading rifles. This new firearm technology and the protection the circled wagon boxes were influencing factors in this famous battle.

Hole-in-the-Wall and Outlaw Cave - The Hole in the Wall is closely associated with such names as Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and the Wild Bunch along with other lesser known outlaws who frequented this area of southern Johnson County while evading the law. The entire area west of Kaycee is referred at as the Hole-in-the-Wall Country. The Hole-in-the-Wall area is characterized by spectacular red rock buttes and wide open spaces. It is a short drive south from Folded Hills Ranch.

The Custer Battlefield is the site where The Battle of the Little Bighorn began on June 25, 1876 between the U.S. Army's seventh cavalry and several bands of Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho. It is located in southern Montana on the Crow Indian Reservation, and is about a 1-hour drive from Folded Hills Ranch.

Bighorn Medicine Wheel

The Bighorn Medicine Wheel is a medicine wheel located in the Big Horn Mountains. Medicine wheels, or sacred hoops, were constructed by laying stones in a particular pattern on the ground. Most medicine wheels follow the basic pattern of having a center of stone(s), and surrounding that is an outer ring of stones with "spokes," or lines of rocks radiating from the center.

Custer Battlefield

Cody, Wyoming is home to the five museum complex of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Its third of a million square feet of exhibition space makes it one of America’s largest museum complexes. The complex includes the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Cody Firearms Museum, the Plains Indian Museum, the Buffalo Bill Museum, and the Draper Museum of Natural History.

Buffalo, Wyoming hosts the accredited Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, the Historic Occidental Hotel and other historic sites. Buffalo is just a few minutes drive north from Folded Hills Ranch.

Sheridan, Wyoming has the historic Sheridan Inn, the King Ropes Museum, Trails End Museum and many other fine attractions.Sheridan also has a fine shopping district and fine dining opportunities.

Two routes into the Big Horn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest, US Highway 16 from Buffalo and US Highway 14 from Ranchester (12 miles north of Sheridan) can be accessed after a short drive from Folded Hills Ranch. Along both of these routes you can see spectacular scenery and wildlife.

The Big Horn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest are very popular for sports including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling. Summer activities include camping, fishing, hiking & backpacking, trail riding, wildlife viewing and photography, and sightseeing.

Abundant Wildlife

Wildlife is abundant in the area around Buffalo, Wyoming and the Bighorns. Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Moose, Elk, Black Bear, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, and many other species inhabit the area.

There are many local events held during the year including rodeos, festivals and local history celebrations.

Buffalo is the smallest city in the U.S. with a YMCA. It has a full gymnasium, weightlifting/workout room, racquetball courts, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, outdoor tennis courts and all types of exercise and fitness classes.

Buffalo also has the state's largest outdoor FREE swimming pool, which is open during the summer months. There is also a "Snack Shack" available at the pool. The Buffalo City Park is located in this area with a wading pool, kids playground equipment, horsehoe pits and other amenities.

The Buffalo Golf Course offers 18 challenging holes and a full service restaurant and pro shop. It is a premier course, having been rated as 4 star by Golf Magazine and Golf Digest.
